The IMO Res. MSC 307(88), formally known as the International Code for Application of Fire Test Procedures, 2010 (2010 FTP Code), is the mandatory fire safety standard for materials used on board vessels subject to the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Convention. 
It ensures that materials installed on international seagoing vessels meets strict fire resistance, low flame spread, and low toxicity requirements to guarantee the safety of passengers and crew.

Step 1: 

Sample Assembly

 
 
Mounted on Standard Foam The leather is installed over standard non-FR polyether foam to simulate a worst-case scenario "mini-sofa" setup.

Step 2: 
Cigarette Test
 
 
Smouldering Resistance A lit cigarette is placed in the crevice. The material must not ignite or show progressive smouldering within 1 hour.

Step 3: 

Match Flame Test

 
Open Flame Resistance A gas flame equivalent to a match is applied for 20 seconds. Any fire must self-extinguish within 120 seconds.

MED Certification Successful completion qualifies the material for the Wheelmark, validating it for global marine use.
