The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 302 (FMVSS 302) is the mandatory flammability standard for materials used in the occupant compartments of motor vehicles.

Step 1: 

Sample Conditioning

 
Samples are conditioned for 24 hours at 21°C / 50% relative humidity to ensure consistent testing baseline.

Step 2: 
Mounting & Ignition
 
The leather specimen is mounted horizontally in the test cabinet. A Bunsen burner flame is applied for 15 seconds.

Step 3: 

Burn Rate Monitoring

 
We measure the time it takes for the flame to travel between two specific points (38mm to 254mm).

Step 4: 

Result Verification

 
PASS criteria: The material must self-extinguish or burn slower than 102mm/min. Caiwing leather typically achieves self-extinguishing results.
